Music musings

OK, so Kara mentioned it already, but I'll give a me-too and tell you to go watch Sarah. If last year wasn't one of your most philanthropic years, you need to try harder.

I've been really listening to Imogen a lot lately. That's either helping me get in touch with my feelings or making me depressed, or most likely, reminding me of the warm and fuzzy feelings of her show. There were so many things right about that night, and I just haven't had a concert experience like that in years.

Who the hell made the nominations for the Grammys? Mariah Carey? Washed up, move on. But Kelly Clarkson, she's the real fucking deal. Good for her. And U2 made lots of scores, and they're all well deserved. I miss freaky Christina Aguilera (she made a cute goth chick). Actually, most of the nominations were spot on if you don't count the Mariah nonsense. I'm annoyed that Garbage was once again totally ignored, and I assume (and hope) that Imogen was just late to be considered this year.

I have to say that I probably bought twice as much music in 2005 compared to the year before. It's still hard to find stuff that I really like, but I'm gonna try and get into Pandora to help me with that.

I can't believe that you don't think Mariah Carey deserves her Grammy nods. Sure she had some off years, but she has definitely proven that she has the staying power to last in the industry. She is arguably one of the best singers in history.

She may have been musically non-existant for several years, but that may be because she had no muse at the time. As unfortunate as it is, singers seem to gain their best material from life's hardships, and being happily married doesn't really breed much to sing about. This album was exceptional, and "We Belong Together" was one of the first pop songs in a while to actually get me to feel something.

To say that Kelly Clarkson doesn't deserved her Grammy nominations would be misguided, but at the same time, it seems like she has been taken care of very well by her label. Getting people like Avril Lavigne and Ben Moody (Evanescence) to co-write your songs for you is a luxury that not all artists are allotted.

After watching the Grammy's tonight, I do have to comment on Kelly's demeanor...she is pretty much the epitome of unjaded. Hopefully she can retain that "girl next door" quality because that's honestly one of the biggest keys to her success, in my opinion.

I'm happy they both won tonight.

For Jeff, Mariah, along with Shaq, is in the "I'll hate you forever" group.

I agree with CP, Mariah deserves every ounce of gold that are in those Grammies. Speaking of staying power, I was starstruck by Madonna. Watching her dance made me forget that she was in her mid-40s. She defintely good at what she does.

I have to admit, I hate American Idol and everything it stands for. But, I have to give Clarkson her due. She got the Grammy, she worked her ass off this past year and deserves her success.

Mariah hasn't made a good record in ten years. She peaked too early. This stuff she's putting out now is so "me too" it's not even funny. Best singer in history? No fucking chance.

Madonna though, yeah, she's the shit. I wouldn't even go as far as saying that she "reinvents" herself periodically as much as she does whatever she's interested in these days. I admire that.

Madonna is the shit, but the excessive dancing in the opening number was *yawn* boring. How many times can you repeat the chorus?

Yeah, I don't know she all she has done to make herself that hot, but Madonna has the body of a 25 year old. Did anyone catch that part of the Gorillaz performance when she went behind Murdock? I like how they made it look like she was physically on stage for that part of the performance.

On a side note...

THANK YOU for enlightening me on the existence of Pandora. This project is amazing...worth the initial time investment with 100x the return.
