Way back in 2016, there was this song from Aurora called "Conqueror" that made my playlist that year. I bought her whole album that year, her debut, and I was really into it. The one curated "radio" source that I lean on, AltNation on SiriusXM, of course never really paid attention to her after that, as is the case with virtually everything that I like. (This is also true of Sigrid, another Norwegian artist.) In the interim, there was that weird thing where they kind of stashed her in the background of the Oscars as "the voice" in Frozen's "Into The Unknown." (And if you're wondering, Panic! At The Disco did it better than Idina.) In the mean time, she had three other albums, then just released What Happened to the Heart.
The algorithm suggested two tracks to me from that album, "When The Dark Dresses Lightly," and "A Soul With No King." The former is amazing for bass heads, and the latter would be right at home in a Cirque du Soleil show. She's so good. There's something deeply intriguing about music from that part of the world. Hedningarna, a Swedish group, had a place of distinction in the old Epcot Illuminations pre-show music. Wimme Saari from Finland was another in that list.
I've only spent time in Ålesund in Norway, and in many ways it was the highlight of our trip around Northern Europe. The place and the people were absolutely wonderful. And we have some great friends from the Oslo region who are equally wonderful.
I guess it's just the long way of saying there are a lot of great things about Norway. I'd add to that proper healthcare and higher education, too.
