Does anyone use tags for text content?

I was thinking today about how I want to organize news content on CB going forward, and was thinking about using tags, the way most blog engines do. Tagging is something I find very useful for photos, but is it as useful for text? I'm not sure that it's particularly useful for most types of text.

I think tags would be extremely useful for news items. As it stands, its very difficult to find stories similar to others.

If you implemented tags, it would be nice and easy to find similar articles for things like "accident", "fiscal results", etc.

Are you interested in having submitters/topic authors provide tags or code creating scanning test and creating a list of tags?

The tagging would be manual on the part of the editor. So when you approve a story, you tag it with "Cedar Fair" and "financial" or whatever. Then when you view the story, you could click the tag to see more stories with that tag.

I suppose that using search would be the smarter way.

But a few tags would give more accurate search results. Perhaps a hybrid approach would work?

Have you ever thought of associated common abbreviations with their meanings? For example, a search for "Cedar Point" would show posts with "CP" in them.

I use tags on "that other" blog site to make it easier to find things I'm looking for. I guess it depends who is setting the tags.
