If Safari could do one more thing...

...it would be that command-Enter (or ctrl-Enter on Windows) surrounded what you typed in the address bar with www. and .com the way Firefox and IE do.

I have never used that feature.

It's like the best shortcut ever, and surprisingly few people know about it. Type campusfish, ctrl/cmd-Enter, bam, you're there.

I've known about it for a long time but I never started using it. I'm not sure why because I love shortcuts.

In safari, you just type what you want... "yahoo" and then hit return, and safari replaces that with "www.yahoo.com". At least that works for me.

We've talked about this before. Jeff will tell you that Safari wastes precious time pinging "yahoo" before it tries "yahoo.com".

I'll admit that just typing "yahoo" takes noticeably longer to load.

Actually, in my case it pings OpenDNS momentarily, since that's what I use for nameserver lookups. That's a wasted trip and redirect.

Do this:

Go to Safari -> Preferences
Click on "Advanced" at the top
Click "Change Settings..." next to Proxies
Click on the DNS tab
Add the following two DNS servers on the left:

4.2.2.1
4.2.2.2

That should allow you to enter just "yahoo" and have it load much faster.
