New Nine Inch Nails album... and it's free...
First listen does not WOW me, but then I am rarely WOW'd now that I am an old man. ;)
It is however, listenable, so I am sure to give it some additional listening time. Plus, when it's free - I have nothing to lose.
Musically it seems to live somewhere between Pretty Hate Machine and Downward Spiral (but not like Broken - which actually is in-between). I haven't picked up the lyrical content yet.
I also just picked up the new Elvis Costello album, Momofuko. Named after the the Cup-o-Noodles guy, just add water. It harks back to the more rockin' Elvis - a nice addition to his extensive and varied catalog.
It wasn't free - I used Amazon downloads with no DRM issues for $9 rather than iTunes $11 with DRM. I guess I am also become a cheap bastard too.
I'm with you though... I haven't bought anything on iTunes since Amazon went DRM-free.
I think the problem with NIN is that Pretty Hate Machine and Downward Spiral were something we had never heard before, but since then Reznor has failed to deliver a lot that really stands out. We can only take so much ambient noise "music" before you get bored.
This one has a couple of strong tracks to start then just kind of falls flat I think.
