"Time is a bomb"

There's this Metric song on their new album called "Time Is A Bomb." Emily, the singer and lyricist, is just seven months behind me in age, and I imagine she has a lot of the same thoughts as me, regarding our stage in life.

Now that I'm back to work, there's a little more routine in my life. I'm surprised that I've been at this job already for four weeks. It went by so fast. And I realize that I need to do more things to break up the week other than going out for lunch. I find myself comparing time periods in strange ways. Like, I moved to Orlando 13 years ago. And 13 years before that, it was 2000, and I was in my first marriage and had not even bought my first house. The volume of change is a lot lower in this last 13 years, aside from the growth of my kid. Well, that, and I've had seven jobs.

The funny thing is that the previous six months felt like an eternity. There were a lot of ad hoc goings on. If it weren't for the anxiety, I would vastly prefer that "eternity" feeling over the fast passage of time.

So this makes me think, gosh, how do I make sure that the next 13 years don't fly by? Hitting that (very) early "retirement"/offboarding target is certainly part of it. I also hope that with age, I give in a little to the inevitability of my demise. What a weird thing, that you can't feel bad about not making the most of your time when you're dead, but it can nag at you when you're alive. That's a cruel symptom of life.

Time really is a bomb.
